How many banks in Russia?
As of January 1, 2017, there are 575 commercial banks operating in Russia.
However, you might recall that at the beginning of 2016, the number of operating banks in Russia amounted to 681. Thus, in 2016 the banking system of the Russian Federation decreased by 106 banks.
The total number of registered banks on January 1, 2017 is 908, but, among them are 333 banks that have withdrawn or had their banking license revoked – which have not yet been excluded from the State Register of Credit Institutions.
