Cave Tanechkina in the Volkhov area, Leningrad Region, Russia

This is a unique place near the Staraya Ladoga village under Mountain Malysheva. The length of the cave is more than 7.5 km. Today the cave is partially flooded and collapsed kolonnik stretched along the Volkhov. Local legends say that the cave presumably extends 40 kms deeper underground.


Earlier quartz sand mining was lead here. At the end of the XIX century the resources were depleted, and the workers left the dark corridors of the cave. A unique feature of the cave is that you can see a real underground lake here.

The cave is inhabited, bats have taken a fancy to vaults of the dungeon for a long time. These places are very popular among spelunkers from all Russia.
